15 govt nominated senate members appointed at MSU - Times of India

Vadodara: The state government has appointed 15 government nominees in MSUniversity's highest body – the senate.
The circular regarding the appointments was released late on Tuesday night. The 'sankalan samiti' of BJP-RSS members which was at loggerheads with its rival saffron group that enjoys majority in senate and syndicate bodies of the university has had an upper-hand in these appointments.
A majority of the nominated members are those whose names were proposed by the 'sankalan samiti' and BJP's city unit. The 'sankalan samiti' backed candidates who were defeated during the recently held senate elections have made a backdoor entry into the senate as government nominees.
The government nominees include Dr Chetan Somani, Dr Kalpesh Naik, Dr Sunil Kahar, Dr Kamlesh Vala, Kashyap Parikh, Dr Swati Akshay Parnami, Dr Shanno Pandey, Jignesh Soni, Ishan Purohit, Jignesh Shah, Jignesh Joshi, Navin Jetavat, Mitesh Patel, Vilas Deshmukh and Dr Bharat Modi.
Somani, Naik, Kahar and Parnami had lost the elections from their respective constituencies. It is worth mentioning here that the state government has announced the appointments as tenure of the current government nominees ends on February 11.
