The county is hosting the webinars on the last Friday of each month. The goal is to bring awareness and understanding about services it and other community organizations it is partnered with offer. The panel discussion also provides community members with an opportunity to ask questions about the role equity pays in the community. "When we talk about what is your specific need, how can we cater specifically that," said Fawn Rhodes, New Hanover County HHS Equity coordinator. "So, that is how equity matters within New Hanover County, and how we actually try to do like a curated or customized approach to specifically to what each individual and each household may need." Two UNC scholars win 2023 Engaged Scholarship Prizes - UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health

March 23, 2023 Dr. Dane Emmerling Elana Jaffe Dane Emmerling, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Health Behavior at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, and Elana Jaffe, MPH, UNC medical student and 2020 Gillings Master of Public Health alumna in maternal and child health, are the recipients of the 2023 Engaged Scholarship Prizes. Emmerling is the recipient of the $1500 faculty prize and Jaffe was awarded the $500 graduate student prize. Both were recognized during the North Carolina Campus Engagement (NCCE) 2023 PACE Conference on Feb. 15 at High Point University. Launched in 2020, the Engaged Scholarship Prize is the brainchild of UNC Greensboro Chancellor Franklin D. Gilliam, Jr., and is awarded by NCCE in partnership with UNC Greensboro. Introduction Insomnia is a common clinical condition that occurs independent of or comorbid with other physical or psychological diseases. 1 An estimated 50% of adults suffer from insomnia symptoms each year, 15% experience chronic symptoms, 2 and lifetime prevalence estimates indicate that on average ~10% of the population meet the diagnostic criteria of insomnia disorder. 3–5 Prevalence estimates vary depending on age, assessment tools, and the criteria applied. Using stringent DSM-IV diagnostic criteria, point prevalence estimates in a large sample remained 6%, 6 whereas a recent cross-cultural and comparative epidemiological study reported that 10.8% fulfilled the newer DSM-5 criteria for insomnia disorder. 7 In a recent meta-analysis, the pooled prevalence of insomnia disorder in China was 15.0%. 8 Regardless of the population and instruments used, insomnia is common.
